Spinning Turtle - Medium
Our Spinning Family consists of small whimsical wooden figures of animals, each symbolizing something different. It could be the endurance of the kangaroo, the transformation of the swan, the strength of the lion, etc.
Overall, they also have a unified symbolism, which is expressed through the rotating ball when you push them forward.
The spinning ball represents the earth.
Our intention with the figures is that they become a daily reminder that we all bear part of the responsibility for ensuring that future generations can also enjoy Mother Earth. That our choices and actions affect both animals and nature. We want to influence the earth in a positive direction and do good rather than exploitation.
We believe we can't be reminded of this too many times.
The figures are made from leftover wood, which is usually discarded in design production.
Why the elephant and the turtle?
According to Indian cosmology, an elephant standing on a turtle is a symbol of the stability of the world.
They are a visual reminder to maintain stability in a changing world.
The turtle is associated with creation, fertility and long life.
Its slowness is seen as a sign of "festina lente", which means "hurry slowly".
It is also attributed a cosmological function as a creature on whose back the Earth rests.
That's why it is designed with the round ball/earth on its back.
As you move the figure forward, it slowly rotates the earth, giving you an extra reminder to slow down.
